At FastTrack we are always trying to seek high standards and provide our candidates with the best opportunity to make a success with their careers. This is no more evident than with our temporary worker David Gatter.
David began working with FastTrack at the start of 2011 through a position with VINCI Construction UK, who had requested a local operative as part of the Social Engagement / Local Employment Partnership Scheme.
His first project was working as a general operative for five months at Litchard Primary School, Bridgend, where he made an immediate impression on the management staff due to his hard work, commitment and desire to learn. It was clear from the offset he was determined to become a valued member of staff.
After a few weeks of employment, VINCI Construction UK suggested that David was enrolled on a First Aid at Work course. This would provide him with the necessary skills required to progress and the ability to see the project through to completion in January 2012. David was keen to take part and so FastTrack paid for him to attend the course in February 2011 which he successfully completed, gaining not only a recognised and valuable qualification but also a significant boost to his confidence.
David commented,
“Through FastTrack I have been given an opportunity to make something of my life and have high hopes for a career in construction. I have never had such support and encouragement from another employer as I have had with FastTrack and would like to personally thank Ryan and Daniel in the office for everything that they have done for me.”
To continue his development, Darren Thomas, Project Manager at VINCI Construction UK offered to fund David’s training to obtain a CPCS Forklift qualification. Having successfully passed the CPCS course, David now holds the position of sole forklift driver on site and is responsible for operating a 10 tonne forklift and providing bricklayers and tradesmen with all relevant materials.
Darren Thomas, Project Manager VINCI Construction UK, said;
“We have been absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity of adding David to our strong workforce. His progress has been astounding and this, coupled with his reliable, committed and hard-working attitude has meant he is an invaluable addition to the team.”
This case study provides sufficient evidence to support the use of social engagement causes and the positive impact they have on the local community. The opportunities and benefits are clear to see for all parties involved:
- David has been out of unemployment for the past 12 months.
- He now has two professional qualifications that will remain with him for his career, at no cost to himself.
- VINCI Construction UK have added to their strong workforce with a reliable, committed and hard-working individual
- The local community have one more person in employment in the local area.
- David, who lives only 2 miles from the site, was able to walk to work, which saved the council money in benefit payments but also contributed to their carbon footprint quota for both the main contractor and the council.
