Forecast for Construction Export Growth

The Construction sector is reported to have the greatest potential for overseas exportation growth among the service sectors, claims CBI’s report.

Over the next eight years construction services export could grow faster than any other services sector, including financial services and communications.

The report, Winning Overseas, boosting business export performance reports an estimated 10.8 per cent annual growth to 2020 for constructions services, compared to 9.4 per cent predicted export growth for financial services.

Director of CIB John Cridland said, “We have seen many of our biggest construction companies recently expand overseas, but more firms need to seize the opportunity. The designers, the engineers, they are already out there, but there are firms right through the supply chain that could be successful overseas.”

He added that the London 2012 Games will also provide the perfect platform to show the world what British construction can achieve.

“It’s a great advertisement, and British construction companies can export that reputation for quality of work,” he said.

“The Games could really give smaller and medium sized firm the momentum and confidence to go abroad.”
